How block print table cloth is made?
To make a single tablecloth, the block printer prepares the fabric by measuring the length which should be folded for the hem. This will help them to start work from corners. Using a tailor’s awl, the pointers are marked on all four corners.
In the next, a piece of cloth is laid out diagonally across the printing table to align awl points. A strong line of twine is stretched across the cloth. This connects all the corner points and creates a full-length guide for the block printer.
Printers use dark colour as the background to start printing. The fabric is relocated and pinned for the second colour to be added. This creates diagonal stripes which cross each other and depict the overall pattern. The printers should align precisely to keep the very long lines as straight as much possible.
Once the printing process is over, the cloth is hung to dry. Then washing is done which helps the colours to set. Finally, the hem is sewn and the finished tablecloth is ready to pack.
